Today was a hard day! The temperature was increasing over 30 degrees as today's tour turned inland because the huge Vandenberg Air Force Base which is located along the coast. After I started at Pismo Beach I went to Guadalupe, a village with approx. 95 % Mexican residents. The landscape around Guadalupe is affected by huge agriculture. It was hard to ride as the road was very dirty and dusty from the agriculture work. After passing Guadalupe I rode huge climbs with strong and changing winds along the entrance of the Vandenberg Air Force Base and to Lampoc. When I arrived at Lampoc I had to go the local bike shop to repair a broken spoke on the rear wheel ;). From Lampoc I had to manage my last big climb for the tour, it was not very steep but long and heavy side winds. When I was on the top I had a screaming decent ride with heavy wind gusts. The wind gusts became stronger when I arrived at sea level and it was hard and dangerous to ride the last miles on the Highway to the Refugio State Beach campground. I stayed there for free on the Hiker&Biker site (showers included ;)).
133,5 km / 1347m altitude difference
Follow me on my way down the Pacific Coast from Vancouver/Canada to Tijuana/Mexiko by my road bike. Starting point of the tour is the Stanley Park in Vancouver and will end at the Mexican border near Tijuana. Updates are given regular including the daily route, distance, stays, weather conditions and pictures. Due to the fact my stays include camping Wifi is not always available and updates are given belated. Feel free to add any comments and enjoy reading :)
