Today I did my first ride. Unfortunately, as forecasted, it was raining heavily all the day. So I took some time to prepare myself and to say upfront: I stayed dry under my clothes all the day :)
Anyhow, it was not very comfortable to ride on the highway during rain with all the traffic and the trucks.
My tour started from the Hostel Downtown Vancouver to the Stanley Park, across the Lions Gate bridge to North Vancouver, driving the Marine Drive to Horseshoe Bay, via ferry to Lansdale and from Gibsons to Davis Bay. Originally I only wanted to drive to Roberts Creek but the campground there was closed because of the heavy rain. So I headed on to find another accommodation along the route.
After several declines from B&Bs and Motels I found the Blue Sky Motel in Davis Bay (59$ without breakfast). It is too expensive, but to be honest it was cold, raining, getting dark and I was absolutely not in the mood to build up my tent during rain ;) I will balance this out with some wild camping when the sun is shinning :) By the way, a hot shower after a rainy day is horny :)
The landscape is amazing as far as I can see, it is smelling all the time fishy by driving near the coast which is a good alternation to the Marihuana smell in Vancouver ;)
Tomorrow I will head on to Powell River.
63,2 km / 617m difference in altitude (excl. ferry rides)
